Data Center & Building Electrical Safety: Arc Flash Requirements
Description: How do the requirements of OSHA 29 CFR-1910 affect your data center?

  • The National Fire Protection Association Guidelines (NFPA 70E) require facility owners to perform an arc flash hazard analysis prior to allowing a worker to perform a task on energized equipment
  • The OSHA 29 CFR-1910 Subpart S requires in part that "Safety related work practices shall be employed to prevent electric shock or other injuries resulting from either direct or indirect electrical contacts...." this includes the creation and documentation of a facility electrical safety plan, documented training in electrical and arc-flash safety and placement of appropriate warning labels on equipment
